Emergency Preparedness
Unfortunately, we simply can’t prevent certain disasters from occurring. There’s obviously no way to stop an earthquake from happening, but there certainly are a few things that we can do that will help us be as prepared as possible. By taking a few simple steps ahead of time, we can do a great deal in mitigating the inherent dangers of the situation.
Although we can’t stop certain things from happening, emergency preparedness helps us take care of important issues ahead of time in order to afford us the best chances of survival. It’s always good to remember that the more you do now, the less you will have to worry about when an emergency does occur. Because when that emergency does occur, you’ll almost certainly be struggling to stay organized amidst any degree of chaos, and having your emergency plans established ahead of time will definitely go a long way in helping you and your family stay safe.
A good place to start in developing your plan is by assessing your area’s most common natural disasters. If you live anywhere near an earthquake fault it would be a good idea for you to tailor your catastrophe kit in a manner that will help you address the problems most often associated with earthquakes. You’ll stand a much greater chance of survival when you have specific solutions set in place beforehand.
You should also always contact information on hand at all times for your local emergency services. And make sure your children know where this information is and how to use it. Not only that, but it’s also a good idea to always have your neighbor’s and good friend’s contact information as well. In the case of mass catastrophes, there’s a chance that you local emergency services may be inundated with countless calls for help. If you have additional information on hand you will automatically increase your chances of being able to get help.
Always have a plan! One of the leading factors that compounds an emergency situation is the lack of catastrophe planning ahead of time. You automatically significantly improve your survival rate if you know exactly what you need to do when an emergency strikes as opposed to figuring it out at the same time of the emergency. You should also include contingency plans to make sure you always have a backup plan…and a backup plan for your backup plan!
